Abstract

1282899 Enamel-metal compositions MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 22 July 1969 [23 July 1968 26 Sept 1968] 36898/69 Heading C1M [Also in Division H5] A mild steel or like metal cooking utensil 11 has an insulating vitreous layer 12 of lead borosilicate and quartz crystals and a heating element film 13a bonded to the layer 12 and comprising a porcelain enamel frit and finely divided metallic conductive particles with a depoylmerizable organic binder which decomposes on heating without charring or coking. The film 13a may comprise silver oxide particles, a recrystallizing frit containing titania, and polyisobutylene, with a solvent for the binder containing a lead borosilicate glass. A plasticizer may be included. The average diameter of the porcelain enamel frit particles is from five to ten times greater than the average diameter of the metallic particles. Metal-rich terminals 15, 16, Fig. 3 (not shown), are applied using a film containg equal weights of frit and silver oxide, the main film 13a being 65% porcelain frit and 35% silver oxide. Leads 17, 18, are attached to terminals via resilient contacts 20, 21.
