1282761 Container traffic FRUEHAUF CORP 13 Aug 1969 40404/69 Headings B8E and B8Q [Also in Division B7] A vehicle is provided with elevatable pivot mechanisms 68a-68d at the four corners of its upper surface 20 which engage the container corner fittings to secure the container 22 to the cargo bed 18 or if one is elevated while the others are withdrawn allows the container to be pivoted to either side of the vehicle at either end to an offset loading and unloading position. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 transfer bridges 78 are provided at each end of the vehicle pivotable about elevatable pivots 80, 82. The bridges are pivotable by chains 86 and the container can be engaged and drawn along the bridge by a chain 100 driven by a portable motor 76. In use three of the mechanisms 68a-68d are withdrawn and the other elevated to act with the co-operating container corner fitting as a pivot and the bridge 78 at the other end is elevated and pivoted to the desired unloading position by the chain 86 after which the container is engaged by the chain 100 and drawn on its rollers 94 along the extended bridge. In the embodiment of Fig. 6 tracks 110 are fixed to the container 22<SP>1</SP> and dollies 128 are positioned to engage and support the track as the container is pivoted about a raised mechanism 68a-68d. The dollies can be used to support successive containers for unloading. Each container, Fig. 4, may be provided with overhead tracks 38, 40 to support bulkheads 41 for longitudinal movement therein, fillers 42, 44 which are mounted on telescopic brackets 46 to engage the cargo and rollers 49 to allow goods to be moved longitudinally by a transporting blade 52 drawn along by cables from a driven drum.
