Abstract
1281288 Eddy current couplings NERVUSPARIS and F J BALAGNY 3 June 1970 [9 June 1969 15 May 1970] 26848/70 Heading H2A A magnetic Foucault current coupling comprises coaxially mounted driving and driven rotors 1, 2 having respectively at least one ferrite permanent magnet 14 and an electrically conductive disc 15 facing and spaced by a planar air gap 16 from the driving rotor magnet which during its rotation induces Foucault currents in the disc, and adjustment means to vary the air gap length. In the embodiment shown, the two rotors are in respective inner and outer relatively slidable fluid-tight casings 3, 7 carrying a driving electric, e.g. asychronous motor 5 and having mounting feet 9; the means comprise a rotatable control ring 17 axially fast between an outer casing shoulder 21 and a stop ring 22 and having a helical groove 18 engaged by a guide finger 20 fast with the inner casing 3 whereby the latter is axially adjusted by rotation of the ring 17 by an operating handle 24 having a locking threaded rod 25. A groove 26 in the ring 17 is to permit remote control via a cable. Five series of cooling fins 29 ... 33 are provided to dissipate generated heat, and the magnet 14 is either a single toroid or a plurality of separate magnets. In the other embodiment, Figs. 2 and 3, both rotors are in a single casing containing a cooling oil bath (73), and the driven rotor (42) is axially slidable via a rack and pinion (59, 60) by an exterior handle (69).
