Abstract

1281021 Continuous casting G SCHAUMBURG 24 June 1969 [25 June 1968] 31816/69 Heading B3F [Also in Divisions C1 and G1] The detectability of surface defects on a casting 3 emerging from a continuous casting mould 1 is improved by applying, soon after emergence, a vitreous enamel coating which is fused by the heat of the metal. The metal may be treated with a reducing gas before the enamelling, or with a reducing metal or metal oxide together with the enamel. The enamel may be applied by passing the metal through a cloud, fog or fluidized bed of powdered enamel in chamber 4. The fluidizing gas may be an inert or a reducing gas or air. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,179,850.
