1280643 Coin sorting and counting SOUTH EAST LANCASHIRE & NORTH EAST CHESHIRE PASSENGER TRANSPORT EXECUTIVE 8 May 1970 [8 Feb 1969] 6930/69 Headings G4V and G4X Coin sorting apparatus includes a coin receiving means, a screw conveyer system, a coin sorting apparatus able to sort coins into their denominations and extract rejected coins and further means for receiving, counting and batching the sorted coins and extracting further rejected coins. In one embodiment (Fig. 1, not shown) a coin receiving means (10) may be a delivery tube having a coupling part (11) for attaching to a coin supply and from which screw conveyers (14, 16, 18) transport the coins to a reciprocating spreading tray 20. The tray 20 feeds them on to the coin sorting plate 19 where they are sorted into separate denominations by apertures 23. Coins not fitting within the channels defined by rails 22 fall into trough 24 due to the inclination of the plate (Fig. 3, not shown). For each denomation there is a shoot 25 having a device (26) (Fig. 4, not shown) which diverts and rejects coins which are too thick, a device (35) which diverts acceptable coins toward device (36) whilst permitting coins which are too thin to leave the shoot and device (36) which passes the coins over a counting mechanism (36a). These devices are adjustable, belt driven, friction wheels. The sorted and counted coins then pass to receptables. In another embodiment a coin reservoir is provided by the screw conveyer (18) supplying a screw conveyer (39) whose other end is sealed and which is rotating in an opposite manner such that coins entering it (39) are reversed out on to the sorting plate 20. This prevents coins surging on to the plate 19.
