Abstract

1280381 Thread cutter G M PFAFF AG 12 Aug 1970 [16 Aug 1969] 38754/70 Heading D1G A lockstitch sewing machine having a looptaker 16 supported on a vertical shaft 14, a bobbin housing 19 having an outlet opening 23 for the lower thread and a retaining finger 20 extending from the housing to prevent its rotating, includes a thread catching and cutting device comprising a catcher 25 having a tip providing legs 26, 27 disposed one above the other, the upper leg being longer than the lower and operating means 38, 39, 44, 48 to rock the catcher in such a manner as to move the point of the upper leg 26 between the opening 23 and the finger 20 to engage the thread, thereafter the point moves downwards and towards a cutter 31 to sever the thread. The operating mechanism comprises solenoids 44, 48 connected by a bar 39 to which is connected a rod 38 actuating a crank 37 on the catcher shaft 24. A cam groove 35 on a part 34 of the shaft is engaged by a roller 36 secured to a fixed block 32. At the end of a seam the needle is stopped momentarily in a low position and solenoid 48 energised. Bar 39 pivots about pin 40 to move the catcher to the first position. After a further needle reciprocation solenoid 44 is energised to pivot bar 39 further about pin 42, the stepped groove 35 lowering the catcher during this movement.
