Abstract

1280131 Automatic circuit breakers SQUARE D CO 26 Jan 1971 3236/71 Heading H1N An automatic circuit breaker has a double latch mechanism in which a centrally pivoted, bifurcated, secondary latching lever 22 has one arm 29 latching a pivoted primary latching lever 21 which in turn latches a pivoted trip lever 10. Lever 22 engages, at 22c, the plunger 31 of an earth leakage detecting solenoid 32. When operated, this releases the latching lever 21 from engagement with an edge of latching lever 22, and also by means of arm 30 and triplink 65 rotates cam 62 and the tripping bar 61 to operate the latching mechanism of the adjacent poles of the circuit breaker which are provided with overload responsive trip coils. The breaker is reset by a handle (64) coupled by a bar 17a to levers 17 in each pole. A push-button 46 when depressed connects the coil 34 with a supply line via a resistor 58 by means of a changeover switch, Fig. 4 (not shown), for testing purposes. An air gap between two contacts of the changeover switch serves as a lightning arrestor for protection of the coil 34.
