Abstract

1280015 Feeding webs ENGLISH NUMBERING MACHINES Ltd 1 May 1970 [13 May 1969] 24258/69 Heading B8R [Also in Divisions D1 and F2] A spool 1, from which wire or tape is unwound, rotates, also rotating a shaft 2, a bush 18, a plate 17 keyed to the shaft, and a P.T.F.E. friction disc 16, which is urged by an adjustable spring 21 against a stainless steel disc 4, the disc 4 being permitted to rotate, relative to a housing 3, through a limited angle, until a pin 11 fixed to the housing meets the end of a slot 12 in the disc, such rotation being resisted by a coil spring 7, one end 9 of which is fixed to the housing, the other end 8 being fixed to the disc. Rotation of the bobbin may thus commence before frictional resistancs between components 4 and 16 is overcome, and withdrawal is therefore more smooth. In an alternative embodiment the disc 16 is not rotatable, and pin 11 and end 9 of the spring rotate with the spool.
