Abstract

1279075 Laminates SUDDEUTSCHE KALKSTICKSTOFF-WERKE AG 19 April 1971 [2 June 1970] 9904/71 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] Laminates are produced by impregnating paper with a solution containing a thermosetting resin obtained by reaction of melamine with thiourea, formaldehyde and a diglycol HO-R 1 -O-R 2 -OH, wherein R 1 and R 2 are each a C 2-4 alkylene radical, in a molar ratio of 1 : 0À005-0À5 : 1À4-4À0 : 0À005-0À5, optionally up to 50% of the melamine being replaced by an equal weight of urea, applying an impregnated paper to each surface of a chipboard and hot-pressing the assembly. The thiourea may be introduced as such or as a thiourea-formaldehyde or thiourea-methanol-formaldehyde precondensate. In the examples the materials used are:-melamine; thiourea, thiourea-formaldehyde or methylated methylol thiourea; formalin; diethylene or dipropylene glycol; and optional urea, in molar ratios of the order of 1 : 0À1 : 2 : 0À05-0À1 : 0À3, the resultant solution being mixed with formamidine-sulphinic acid as hardener prior to impregnation of the paper.
