Abstract

1278811 Dredging system G STOCKDALE 6 Feb 1970 [13 Feb 1969] 7797/69 Heading B7A A system for dredging and spoil removal comprises a relatively small, self-powered dredging vessel D squared-off at the bow 13 above the waterline, at least two hopper barge bow units B with squared-off sterns or bulkheads 15, and a relatively high-powered stern propulsion and navigating unit. A barge bow unit B is coupled, by hinged coupling means 14, to dredging vessel D during dredging to receive spoil and, when full, is uncoupled from vessel D and coupled to the stern propulsion unit, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), which propels it to the spoildumping point. A hopper barge squared-off at both ends may be interposed between the stern unit and a barge bow unit, Fig. 5 (not shown). The dredger shown has suction-dredging equipment 10, 11 with a pipe 12 discharging spoil into ducts 18 of the barge unit. Alternatively, grabs or bucket-type dredging equipment may be mounted forwardly of the dredger.
