Abstract

1278515 Erecting buildings K SAETHER 19 Sept 1969 [1 Oct 1968] 46370/69 Heading E1S A building is constructed using a lift-slab technique wherein the pre-cast concrete slabs 25 are jacked up temporary columns 51 in a stack and dropped off one-by-one to be temporarily supported by the said columns whilst the rest of the stack is raised and permanent supports, e.g. wall-like columns 101 are erected thereunder. At each column 51, a pair of hydraulic jacks 61 (Fig. 7) may be supported by a lifting carriage 60 with pivoted braces 73 engaging plates 74 fixed to the column, yokes 62 and 64 being employed to lift rods 65, supporting slabs 25, step-by-step. A holding carriage 81, similar to 60 is used to support slabs whilst carriage 60 is moved to its next supported position. A pair of lifting carriages may be employed, with a single holding carriage. The temporary support (Fig. 9) comprises a bracket 93 supported by a jack 98 and guided by an inverted U-shaped member 99. Gaskets G (Fig. 24) are employed to provide grouted joints between the permanent supports and the slabs 25. The permanent supports may be L-sectioned metal lattice columns, Fig. 18 (not shown).
