1278341 Recording-apparatus TEJAS INSTRUMENT ENGS Inc 4 May 1970 21245/70 Heading G1J Recording-apparatus with a drive-shaft 24 Fig.2 driven by a timing motor in a case 25 and a "pen" recording a variable e.g. flow on a series of charts C in turn has mounted on the shaft 24 chart holding and changing apparatus comprising an arbor 37 with splines 42 interupted by an abutment 47, 48, a disc 43 fitted on the arbor 37 to rotate therewith with a spring 54 urging it towards the abutment, a series of retainer clips 44, Fig.7, interspaced with charts C, Fig.3, on the arbor 37, each chart having a central hole that can pass over the abutment 48 and each clip 44 having parallel sides of a slot 45 engaging the splines 42 so as to rotate with the arbor 37, move longitudinally thereon and be free to fall away at a particular position of rotation of the arbor and an actuator A activated at this position of the arbor to push the charts C and disc 43 away from the abutment 48 so releasing the pressure holding the outermost clip 44, there against, the spring 54 causing the outermost chart to drop off the arbor upon return movement of the actuator and urging the next outermost clip against the abutment 48 so as to hold the remaining charts and clips on the arbor. The disc 43 has keys 53 engaging keyways 46 in the arbor 37 and a pin 58 to fit in a notch in the periphery of each chart C. The actuator A comprises a hub 71 whose flange 70 has a rim 69 movable towards the series of charts C on the arbor 37 to engage the outermost chart above the outermost clip 44 and it carries a container 72 into which the used clips 44 drop. The actuator A is activated by a solenoid 64 energized when a microswitch 34 is operated by a follower 33 entering a notch 31 in a cam disc 30 secured to the shaft 24. A rod 67 to which the hub 71 is secured is either moved directly by the solenoid 64 or the solenoid 64 operates a valve controlling the supply of air from a storage cylinder to a cylinder with a piston secured to the rod 67. A housing 16 carries the microswitch 34 on its back wall 17 and the actuator A on its door 18 interconnected by leads 66. A unit including the arbor 37, spring 54, cam disc 30 and chart disc 43 with charts C and clips 44 can be pre-assembled and locked together by a screw 40 and threaded hole 29 in the hub 27 of the disc 30 and one unit can be readily substituted for another on the shaft 24 by loosening a set screw 28.
