Abstract

1278176 Feeding sheets INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 24 Nov 1970 [29 Dec 1969] 55761/70 Heading B8R Sheet feeding apparatus comprises a hopper having apertured side walls 10 and 11 to enable a pile of sheets to be supported on air jets supplied through the apertures 27 and an apertured base-plate 13 to enable air jets to be directed through the apertures 31 on to the lowermost sheet of the pile to eject the sheet from the hopper. The apertures 31 are angled to move the lowermost sheet towards a throat provided between the base-plate and a throatplate 20. Further air jets from apertures 37 and 39 assist passage of the sheet through the throat and into the influence of further transport jets. Grooves 22 assist removal of air through a vent in rear wall 17 thus restraining the pile from forward movement. Grooves 24 enable air from apertures 31 to escape through the throat and through vents 25, thus tending to move the lowermost sheet towards the throat.
