Abstract
1278071 Continuous casting VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISENUND STAHLWERKE AG 20 June 1969 [23 Aug 1968] 31394/69 Heading B3F To obtain a more uniform cooling of continuously cast steel, a stream 15 of steel is directed to the region of the axis of the mould 1 to form the axial region of the casting while a coaxial outer stream 14 which is hotter, e.g. by 60-70 C., is directed to the outer region. The streams may be from the same ladle, the inner stream 15 being coooled on its way to the mould. As shown, a bar of round or square section is cast, the hotter stream 14 encircling a tube 11 which conducts the stream 15 from a cooler ladle 5 of steel through a tundish 3. The tube 11 may extend down only to the tundish outlet 10 so that the streams are in contact before they reach the mould.
