Abstract

1277564 Polyurethanes FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER AG 16 March 1970 [21 March, 1969] 12487/70 Heading C3R Isocyanate-containing polyurethanes which have an NCO content of 0À5 to 5% by weight are prepared by reacting (a) an isocyanate containing prepolymer obtained from an at least trifunctional polyhydroxyl compound which has a M.W. of 500 to 10,000 and a polyisocyanate at an NCO/OH ratio of 1À5 : 1 to 2À5 : 1 or with a larger excess of isocyanate followed by removal of the excess isocyanate, with (b) a monohydric polyether alcohol of M.W. 100 to 2000. The prepolymer is prepared in a conventional manner. Suitable monohydric polyether alcohols are ethoxylation and/or propoxylation products of monohydric alcohols, phenols or amines. In an example a polyether prepared from propylene oxide and 1,1,1-trimethylolpropane is reacted with toluylene-2,4-diisocyanate to form a prepolymer which is reacted with a monohydric polyether alcohol prepared by the addition of propylene oxide to 2-ethylhexanol.
