Abstract

1277449 Wrappers for cigars and cigarettes IMPERIAL TOBACCO GROUP Ltd 16 July 1970 [21 Aug 1969] 41781/69 Heading A2C [Also in Divisions B6 and D2] A web of fibrous material 20 (e.g. reconstituted tobacco or cigarette paper) is treated to increase its porosity by embossing between rollers 10 and 11 provided respectively with a plurality of axially-spaced rings of wedgeshaped projections 14 and axially spaced annular grooves 16 resulting in a plurality of transversely spaced lines of corrugations providing depressions 21. The projections and grooves interact to cause loosening of the fibres of sheet 20 in the walls of the depressions resulting in perforations 22 in the two opposing wall portions 2 of each depression immediately adjacent its bottom. A length cut from the treated web may be formed as a wrapper around a rod of cigar leaf 28, the parallel lines of depressions extending along the rod with the depressions on the outside.
