Abstract

1276834 Coating PLESSEY CO Ltd 8 July 1969 [22 April 1968] 18906/68 Heading B2E [Also in Division C1N] A glass or plastics structure having a metallic coating is obtained by spraying glass or plastic material to a depth of at least 1/16th of an inch on to a metal coating which is carried by a suitably shaped temporary support member and removing the glass or plastics structure having the metallic coating attached thereto from the temporary support member. The metal coating may be applied to the temporary support member, which may be in the form of a mandrel, by spraying. A release agent such as graphite or polyvinyl alcohol may be interposed between the coating and the metal. The metal may be silver, tin alloy, zinc or aluminium and may be 35 thousandths of an inch thick. The plastics material may comprise nylon, polyethylene, cellulose acetate butyrate, acrylic or epoxide material. Glass fibres may be introduced in the plastics material in order to increase the mechanical strength.
