Abstract
1276601 Transistor switching circuits NORTH AMERICAN ROCKWELL CORP 24 July 1970 [13 Nov 1969] 36098/70 Heading H3T An output terminal OUT is either earthed as through FET 20 when an input 21 is of one polarity, or otherwise held at substantially the full value of the voltage supply- V by a transistor arrangement, such as FET's 16, 28, which is held in a state of low impedance by two clocked bootstrap circuits 5, 26. The sources of FET's 16, 28 are enabled to attain the supply voltage V despite the threshold drop of a FET by virtue of their gates being held more negative than - V by at least a threshold voltage. In one bootstrap circuit, # 1 holds FET 12 on to charge C 1 through a load-connected FET 7. When FET 12 goes off, the voltage across C 1 holds FET 5 on, the source 10 thereof going negatively towards - V and taking the gate 4 thereof negative to an even lower voltage than - V. This provides the gate potential for FET 17. A similar circuit controlled by # 2 controls FET 28 so that by overlapping the periods of conduction of FET's 16, 28 a continuous low impedance path is mtaintained from the output OUT to - V. When FET 20 earths the output, corresponding inputs In may be applied to further FET's 42, 43 which inhibit the bootstrap action to give effectively a pushpull action at the output. The impedance of FET 20 when on is very much less than that of FET's 16, 28 when on.
