1276411 Boring earth &c DRESSER INDUSTRIES Inc 1 Oct 1970 [17 Oct 1969] 46717/70 Heading E1F. [Also in Division C2] A drilling fluid dispersing and/or fluid loss control agent which (1) at least one ionic salt of sulfonated lignite or sulfonated humic acid, in which the cation is an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, or ammonium, and (2) at least one metal chelate of sulfonated lignite or sulfonated humic acid wherein the metal is boron, scandium, gallium, germanium, arsenic, yttrium, zirconium, niobium, molybdenum, technetium, ruthenium, rhodium, silver, cadmium, indium, tin, antimony, hafnium, tantalum, tungsten, osmium, iridium, platinum, gold, mercury, thallium, lead, vanadium, bismuth, chromium, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, zinc, aluminium, silicon, a lanthanide, an actinide, an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal. The agent may also contain one or more metal salts or chelates of lignosulphonate and/or lignite, said metal being an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, iron, aluminium, chromium or copper. Drilling fluids may comprise a clay suspended in an aqueous and/or organic base and 0.1 to 5% of an agent as described above based on the total weight of the fluid.
