Abstract

1275841 Cable drum FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 31 March 1970 [29 March 1969] 15099/70 Heading B8M A cable drum comprises two circular discs 1 of thermoplastic material and a cylindrical core 4 held together by tie rods 5, the discs having a central metal bushing 3, a plurality of radial reinforcing beads 9 and axial bearing surfaces for engaging the ends of the core. The periphery of each disc preferably has a continuous flange 2 the depth of which is preferably at least equal to the depth of the reinforcing beads 9. Each disc may comprise identical segments e.g. three segments, which are locked together by potshaped cavities 7 and bolts 8. The axial bearing surfaces are preferably in the form of slots 10 formed on the inner face of the beads or in the form of continuous slots formed in a further disc attached to the disc 1. The core of the drum may be a piece of tube, also of thermoplastic material, or may comprise a plurality of core sections. In a further embodiment, the core comprises a core mat of profiled bands which are held together by ropes or wires. The profiled bands may be interlocked by means of tongues and grooves. The material for the discs and core is preferably polyethylene or polypropylene, but the core may be made of polyvinyl chloride. The plastics material may incorporate glass or asbestos fibres.
