1275002 Electromagnetic contactors WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 6 Aug 1970 [27 Aug 1969] 37930/70 Heading H1N An electromagnetic contactor has an insulating housing 7 enclosing an electromagnet including an armature 25 biased by springs 23 to an unactuated position (Fig. 2) in which bridging contacts 35, 37, 39 are spaced from fixed contacts 83 and the contact carrier 29, which is secured to the armature by a rod 31, is arranged to allow overtravel after contact engagement, on energization of the electromagnet, with the stressing of a backing damping spring 65 and, through a spring support 55, a contact pressure spring 61. The spring 61 acts between a disc 59 and a seat 105 so as to urge the support 55 downward and the upper end of the support 55 fits in a depression 67 in the spring 65 to urge it against the contact bridge 35 which in the unactuated position engages ends 49 of a metal shield 45 located in the part 41 of the carrier 29 through which the support passes. The fixed contacts have arc-runners 85 secured in recesses 91 located away from the area which may be heated by an arc. An extension 109 of one of the parts 41 is engaged by an adjustable member 111 on a housing part 11 through which the extension passes to allow manual operation.
