Abstract
1275083 Tourniquet apparatus JOBST INSTITUTE Inc. 23 July 1969 37148/69 Heading A5R A tourniquet apparatus comprises a plurality of cuffs 23-26 for securing to a patient's limbs, a supply of pressurised fluid avaible to the cuffs via valves 27-30, an adjustable circuit for controlling the operation of the valves so that each cuff is in a pressurised or relieved state in sequence, and a warning circuit activated by a failure of the fluid supply or the valve actuating circuit. In the embodiment, three of the cuffs are inflated at any one time via cam 31, which is driven by a motor 43. A timing circuit 42 determines the length of pressure relief of each valve, i.e. the length of time the cam 31 is stationary, at the end of which time the cam is rotated through 90‹ and the timing circuit reset. In the event of a failure of the motor 43 to initiate a cam movement, circuit 42 will cause a warning circuit to be activated. The timing period is adjustable via arm 73. Should motor 43 take an excessive time to complete the cam movement, another timing circuit 92 will cause the warning circuit to operate. A fluid pressure failure will cause switch 88 to operate the warning circuit.
