Abstract

[Also in Division F2] A sound-absorptive material for lining fan ducts and by-pass ducts of gas-turbine engines comprises at least two layers of glass fibre cloth, the yarns of adjacent layers being angularly displaced and the layers being resin-bonded together; a cellular honeycomb is provided at the face of the material which contacts the duct and the other face of the material is rendered corrosion-resistant, e.g. by spray-coating with resin or by applying thereto a stainless steel wire mesh. The fibrous component may be made by pressing the resin-impregnated cloth at elevated temperature. The binder may be an epoxy resin, polyurethane or an acrylic ester material.
