Abstract

1,274,203. Two-part couplings for ignition circuits. GENERAL MOTORS Ltd. 18 Sept., 1969 [28 Sept., 1968; 13 March, 1969], Nos. 46179/68 and 13179/69. Heading H2E. [Also in Division H1] The ignition system of an internal combustion engine has its coil 1, distributer 2, and spark plugs 3 protected against conducting deposits by cup-shaped polypropylene shrouds 21, 30, 40 respectively which are sealed to corresponding H.T. leads 8, 15 and are spaced from the protected object. The shroud 21 is located on a cap 7 of the coil 1 by an internal socket portion 23, and is sealed to the lead 8 by an outwardly turned neck (26, Fig. 3, not shown). Shroud walls 25 may have diametrically opposed portions (29) of larger diameter to provide clearance from L.T. leads 4, 5 and the corresponding terminals. The distributer shroud 30 may be similarly located on a cap 10 by sockets in tubular portions 31, 32 which are sealed to the H.T. leads by similar necks (61, 62, Fig. 4, not shown). A polypropylene shroud 50 is also used on insulating cable support 17.
