Abstract
1,274,124. Automatic position control. ALLMNNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Feb.12, 1970, No.6745/70. Heading G3R. Movement of a ship relative to a mooring berth detected by relative movement of points on the ship and on land causes rotation of a controller which adjusts the relative tensions in mooring cables fore and aft of the ship to restore the ship to a desired longitudinal position. In Fig. 1, a telescopic forked arm 7 pivotted on a ship 1 engages a pillar 6 fixed to the quay so that longitudinal movement of the ship relative to its berth causes rotation of a cam controller on the ship to adjust the relative torque of position-correcting electric, steam of hydraulic winch motors 2-5 associated with mooring lines fore and aft of the ship. The desired position of the ship may be selected by manual adjustment of the neutral position of the cam controller with the aid of an indicator lamp. Thyristor, transductor, Ward-Leonard, polechanging or field resistance control of electric winch motors may be employed. The winches, which may also be manually controlled, may, alternatively, be on the quay. The position of the ship may, alternatively, be detected by photocells or electromagnetic devices.
