Abstract

1,274,073. Finishing and inspecting fabrics. NICHOLLS & WILEMAN Ltd. 12 Nov., 1970 [4 Sept., 1969], No. 43870/69. Heading D1S. A device for examining and for shaping tights and pantiehose to facilitate folding thereof for packaging comprises a generally flat frame defining two spaced members 1 which are carried at one end thereof by a rigid structure 2, the frame being resiliently contractible widthwise, whereby a pair of tights or pantiehose can be drawn onto the frame so that the two members are received in the respective leg portions thereof, whereupon the frame, having been contracted widthwise by this action, is permitted to expand thereby stretching the tights or, pantiehose widthwise. As shown, the frame is made of wire bent to define the members 1 which are each tapered at their free end. The adjacent inner lengths of the members 1 are fixed to a bar 2 and have a T-shaped member 3 secured thereto. The ends of the outer lengths of the members 1 are bent inwardly with a compression spring 4 therebetween. The spring 4 is mounted in a tube 5. Stops 6 fixed to the bar 2 limit the extent of the outward movement of the wire ends. An L-section plastics strip 7 is fitted to the bar 2 to protect tights or pantiehose drawn onto the frame from damage by the parts of the device. The bar 2 is secured by brackets 8 to a hub 9 rotatable for inspection of the tights or pantiehose on a pedestal 10.
