Abstract

1,273,735. Dispensing measured quantities of liquids. BURROWS & BRIDGES Ltd. 1 Aug., 1969 [1 Aug., 1968], No. 36748/68. Heading B8N. A dispenser for dispensing measured quantities of liquid comprises a measuring chamber formed within a tube 1 having inlet and delivery ports 11, 14 opened and closed by valve discs 16, 17 mounted on a spindle 15 and biased apart by a spring 18. Liquid, e.g. wine, flows through an inlet passage 12 from a barrel &c. and fills the measuring chamber. The spindle 15 is raised by moving the handle 23 against a leaf-spring 24 allowing the valve disc 16 to be pushed upwards by the spring 18 until it seats over the inlet 11. Further upward movement of the spindle allows the central bore of the valve disc 16 to be sealed by a shoulder 20, and the valve disc 17 to be lifted from its seat 13, permitting the liquid to discharge into a vessel held over an anti-splash sleeve 31. A spider 27 is provided for guiding the spindle, and may be constructed from P.T.F.E. along with the valve discs. The tube 1 may be of transparent plastics, e.g. methyl methacrylate, while end members 2, 3 may be of stainless steel. In an alternative embodiment (not shown), the handle may be dispensed with and instead the spindle may project below the nozzle 30, and terminate in a transverse bar. The spindle may then be raised by contact with a receptacle into which the liquid is to be dispensed, a weight or further compression spring being provided to reseat the valve 17. Two dispensers could be arranged to operate with a common discharge nozzle to deliver different liquids simultaneously.
