Abstract
1,273,015. Polypropylene moulding compositions. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODAFABRIK A.G. 30 Sept., 1969 [1 Oct., 1968], No. 47906/69. Heading C3P. Moulding compositions comprise by weight (1) 100 parts of polypropylene of intrinsic viscosity 6 to 10 and flexural modulus less than 2À5 x 10<SP>9</SP> dynes/cm.<SP>2</SP>, (2) 5 to 25 parts of an alkaline earth metal stearate, (3) 5 to 25 parts of an oily polybutadiene of molecular weight 1000 to 20,000, and (4) 0À01 to 5 parts of a free radical forming substance which decomposes at 130‹ to 250‹ C. Specified radical formers are peroxides, dibenzyls and organometallic compounds, and the preferred stearate is magnesium stearate. The compositions may also contain pigments, stabilizers, lubricants and fillers, e.g. carbon black, glass fibres and asbestos fibres, and may be moulded into shaped articles. Examples describe compositions of polypropylene, polybutadiene, magnesium or calcium stearate and (1, 3 and 4) dicumyl peroxide together with (6 and 7) asbestos fibres, (8) glass fibres, (9) Portland cement, (10) kaolin, (11) carbon black and (12) silicon dioxide; and (2) di-t-butyl peroxide and (5) α,α<SP>1</SP>-diacetoxy-α,α<SP>1</SP>-dimethyldibenzyl.
