Abstract

1,272,699. Monochlorobiphenyls. DOW CHEMICAL CO. 19 Nov., 1970 [19 Nov., 1969], No. 55118/70. Heading C2C. A mixture of 2- and 4-chlorobiphenyls is prepared by reacting biphenyl with Cl 2 in presence of a clay catalyst. In examples, the product contains additionally up to 1% 3-chlorobiphenyl and up to 12% higher chlorinated (mainly dichloro-) biphenyls.
