Abstract

On a loom having a weft inserter 11 for drawing weft yarn, from a bobbin disposed externally of the shed 27, as a loop extending from the selvedge 12 into the shed and a severing device 14 for severing the weft within the shed, one blade 76 being fixed to an oscillating shaft 17 and the other blade 79 being pivotable on the shaft 17, a tucked-in selvedge is formed by a loop holder, pivotally mounted on the blade 76 and which has a point 64, which in its working position is disposed behind the last inserted weft thread 10 at the emergence thereof out of the cloth 8 so as to keep the pull on the weft thread 16 off the selvedge, and by a comb 92 with points 70 which pass between the warp threads and hold the severed end within the shed. A member (32) (Figs 2, 3, not shown) is also provided on the blade 79 to separate the warp threads 5 and 6 as the severing device 14 is lowered. In use the pivotable blade 79 is stopped when an integral lug 22 abuts a stop 23 and the blade 76 continues and severs the thread 16, the relative movement of the blades pivoting a resilient bellcrank 91, to which the comb 92 is adjustably secured and which is pivoted at 78 to the blade 76 and has a forked end 93 engaging an adjustable pin 94 on the other blade 79, to hold the severed end. Alternatively the comb may be rigidly mounted on the blade 79. Also to hold the severed end, the shed of the selvedge warp threader 5 is closed before the shed is changed, the healds 41 of the warp threads 5 and 6 being suspended from levers 45 controlled by respective cams 49.
