1,272,461. Treating seed. BUDAPESTI MEZOGAZDASAGI GEPGYAR. 30 June, 1969 [28 June, 1968], No. 32991/69. Heading A2Q. Seed, e.g. grain, to be dressed with a powdered seed dressing compound, e.g. a disinfectant, is supplied to a container 1 by a rotating sprinkler cone 2 which distributes the seed as a falling cylindrical curtain and at the same time meters the rate of seed flow, so that the seed falls through a radially directed spray from a set of rotating sprinkler plates 4 each having a plurality of circumferentially spaced spray apertures supplied with water by a pipe 3, arrangement producing a fine spray such that the seed is only lightly moistened with 0.2-2 litres of water per 100 kilogrammes of seed, after which the moistened seed is brought into contact with the dressing powders which issues from an inlet 5 in a stream regulated by a metering device 6, the powder being supplied by a reservoir 8. To avoid the powder contaminating the air, the reservoir 8 has guides 10 to receive a flange and lid of a powder container 9 whereby the lid 11 can be slid out, to release the powder into the reservoir, and slid back again, with the container in position. A flap 17 is used to close the inlet when the container is being changed for a fresh one.
