Abstract

1,271,480. Pipe couplings; joint-making packing. HEPWORTH IRON CO. Ltd. 1 April, 1971, No. 8785/71. Headings F2B and F2G. A pipe coupling comprises a plastics sleeve 1 having at each end 3 a sealing ring 2 and formed with a shoulder 4 to which the end portions 8 of the sealing rings are secured by adhesive. The sealing ring 2 is formed with an annular body portion 5 which tapers down in thickness to form an annular tail 6 and an annular lip 7 extending radially inwardly. The coupling will accommodate pipes larger or smaller than the nominal pipe diameter. The sleeve has a central internal flange for locating the sleeve on the ends of the pipes. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the axial length of the enlargement (3A) of sleeve (1A) is greater than the axial length of the sealing ring 2.
