[Also in Division A2] An effervescent tabletting medium consists essentially of particles of at least one solid, water-soluble acid and particles of at least one water-soluble carbon dioxide source and at least one film-forming, water-soluble polymer, the polymer being present as a protective coating upon all particles of the acid, or upon all particles of the carbon dioxide source or upon all particles present, the acid and carbon dioxide source being present in substantially equimolar amounts and the polymer being present in an amount of between 0.25 and 10% by weight of the acid or carbon dioxide source. The compositions suitably comprise sweetening agents or sodium ascorbate.
