[Also in Divisions F4 and G4] A motor vehicle has a pair of front wheels AA<SP>1</SP>, an internal combustion engine G for driving the same, two pairs of rear wheels BB<SP>1</SP> and CC<SP>1</SP>, an electric motor E for driving one of the pairs of rear wheels, and extendable and retractable axles K on which the wheels of the other pair of rear wheels are mounted. Thus for use in pollution-controlled areas, the electric motor and wheels BB<SP>1</SP> drive the vehicle, and the rearmost wheels CC<SP>1</SP> may be in contact with the ground (in which case they have an independent braking system to provide abrupt stopping ability), or may be retracted therefrom. In areas where pollution controls do not exist, the I.C. engine and front wheels AA<SP>1</SP> drive the vehicle, the rearmost wheels CC<SP>1</SP> bring extended to lift the intermediate wheels BB<SP>1</SP> free from the ground. The extendable axles are telescopic and may be actuated by a pump or gear driven from a motor F; the front axles K<SP>1</SP> may be extendable. Vehicle lights O, P may be extendable laterally so as to assume extended positions when the rear axles are extended. The electric motors E, F are battery-driven and the vehicle may seat three people one behind the other.
