Abstract

1,270,520. Wrapping large packages. C. KELLER U CO. 11 Aug., 1970 [11 Aug., 1969], No. 38547/70. Heading B8C. A tubular web 8 of heat shrinkable film having side gusset folds is drawn from a roll 7 by rollers 9, the side folds are spread slightly by doubleedged wedges 12 and are gripped by clamping strip members 13, 14, 15 and 16 which, after heat sealing and severing of the web by members 10 to form a cover, fully spread the web and guide it over a package 41. The clamping strip members 13, 14, 15, 16 each comprise a fixed and a movable part, the movable parts being pivoted into a gripping position by pressure cylinders 17, 18, 19, 20 and the fixed parts being secured to roller carriages 21, 22, 23, 24 movable outwardly on a vertically movable frame 2 by means of pressure cylinders 25, 26 acting through linkages (27, 28). The wedges 12 are connected through linkages 11 to the welding and severing apparatus 10 so that as the latter is operated, the wedges are removed upwardly from the welding and severing zone.
