Abstract
1,270,543. Aircraft lifting and manoeuvring apparatus. W. E. ROSSMAN. 14 Feb., 1969 [21 Feb., 1968], No. 8165/69. Heading B7G. [Also in Division E1] A lifting means, for moving aircraft to a parking level at an air terminal and higher than the normal parking level comprises a set of ramps 35, 36 and 37 with rails 32 and 33 (Figs. 4 and 5), and a sled 30 which can be accommodated in pit 34, so that the top surface of the sled is at ground level. The aircraft is driven on to said surface and the sled is pulled up the ramps by a cable attached to a winch (46, Fig. 9, not shown) worm driven by a motor. After unloading, the aircraft is returned to ground level by the force of gravity, by allowing the winch to pay out the cable. As shown in Fig. 2, the circular shaped terminal 10 has ramps arranged radially round its periphery and the upper levels A, B, of the terminal can receive passengers and cargo from aircraft parked adjacent each level. The other levels of the terminal, which can be reached by escalators 19, are designed to receive passengers arriving by helicopter, train or car, as well as providing space for car parking and check-in areas.
