Tooth-cleaning compositions contain one or more enzymes and one or more polishing substances, the majority by volume of the polishing substance exhibiting a minimum particle size of 20 microns. The polishing substances may be, for example, calcium phosphate, calcium carbonate and/or silicon dioxide, and the enzymes may be, for example, carbohydrases of proteases such as amylases, dextranases or glucosidases.
