Abstract

1,270,107. Anthraquinone dyestuffs. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 24 April, 1969 [15 May, 1968], No. 23134/68. Heading C4P. The invention comprises anthraquinone dyestuffs free from sulphonic acid carboxylic acid groups and having the general formula wherein R is H or optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, or aryl, Y is H or halogen, or an optionally substituted alkyl, alkoxy or aryloxy group; 2 is H or Cl, n is 1 or 2, X is a direct link or a divalent bridging atom or group e.g. -O-, -S-, -SO 2 -, -NH-, -N(alkyl)-, -CH 2 -, -CH 2 CH 2 -, Q is a primary, secondary, tertiary or quaternary amino group, the latter being associated with an anion, and rings A and B may be further substituted. They are prepared by (a) reacting an anthraquinone compound of the formula wherein R 1 Y, Z, n, are as above and R 1 is halogen in presence of a basic compound with preferably an excess of an amine of the formula wherein X, A and B are as above and Q1 is a primary, secondary or tertiary amino group; (b) alkylating the product of (a); or (c) reacting the anthraquinone compound of (a) with an amine wherein T may be subsequently converted by known methods into a group Q. The dyes give reddish-blue and greenish-blue shades in polymers and copolymers of acrylonitrile or dicyanoethylene, polyesters, polyamide and cellulose esters optionally acid modified.
