Abstract
1,269,813. Anti-theft device. STAYPUT ENG. PTY. Ltd. 14 April, 1969 [16 April, 1968; 23 May, 1968], No. 18884/69. Heading B7J. An anti-theft device for limiting the movement of a motor vehicle steering wheel comprises an elongate member 5 of rigid material having a hook or fork 7 and a series of apertures 8 for receiving a padlock to secure the member to a steering wheel so that in use a portion 10 of the member 5 projects from the steering wheel to restrist its movement. The member may be hinged, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), at a point between the hook and the apertures to facilitate storage when not in use. In another modification, Fig. 5, the member has a fork 20 of sufficient depth to allow for variations of steering wheel size, and partway along its length, a channel member 21 having apertured legs to accommodate a padlock. The member may be hinged adjacent the channel member 21 and have an apertured leg projecting adjacent the hinge, so that a padlock may pass through all three apertures, and thus prevent hingeing when in use. The fork 20 may be replaced by a double return closed hook, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown). In a further modification, Fig. 9, the member has a hook 28 at one end, a fork 29 spaced from the hook, and a pair of apertured legs 30. The member fits over the rim 6 and spoke 31 of a steering wheel and is retained thereon by a padlock. The projecting portion 10 of the member may be straight or bent as shown.
