Abstract

1,269,756. Mixing powders by gas currents. POLYSIUS A.G. 2 June, 1970 [28 Aug., 1969], No. 26455/70. Heading B1C. In a continuous method and apparatus for homogenizing a powder, e.g. cement, by air the treatment space is divided into a plurality of cross-sectional zones supplied cyclically with air at different rates, the incoming material being fed to the zone(s) which at any time are being supplied with little or no air. As shown the container 1 has a porous base 2 divided into twelve sections 4-15 respectively associated with twelve controllable inlets 20-31. At any time an opposed pair of sections, e.g. 4, 10, is strongly aerated and material is fed to the pair of sections 7, 13 as far as possible removed. Homogenized material leaves at 18. The arrangement ensures that material is fed on top of partly settled material in the container instead of falling through fluidized material of lower bulk density.
