Abstract
1,269,748. Mixing apparatus. C.P.C. INTERNATIONAL Inc. 15 July, 1970 [15 July, 1969], No. 34394/70. Heading B1C. [Also in Division F4] Apparatus for mixing brittle particulate materials, e.g. dried vegetables with the object of reducing breakage on mixing comprises a perforated mixing drum 10 provided with blades 14-21 rotatably mounted in a housing 30 and a fan 63 for blowing air into the drum to fluidise particulate materials in the drum during mixing. Optionally, a liquid or powdered treating agent may be injected into the air flow via nozzles 81 prior to its entry into the mixing drum. Dust or broken particles of a size smaller than the perforations of the drum entrained in the air flow from the drum may be recovered by means of a cyclone separator 56 and the air either exhausted or recirculated to the fan. A net having a mesh of predetermined size may be arranged within the drum to act as a sieve. The air blown through the drum may be heated or cooled by means of a heat exchanger 76. The annular space between the drum and its housing may be sealed off at the air inlet 32 and air outlet 34 by roller bearings 40-43. Particulate material may be loaded into the drum via opening 36 in the housing and through doors 22, 24 in the drum, and discharged via chute 45.
