Abstract

1,269,298. Laminates. PAPER CONVERTING MACHINE CO. Inc. 20 Aug., 1970, No. 36202/70. Heading B5N. A process for manufacturing a multi-ply web of flexible material comprises travelling a first web on a plate cylinder in partial wrapping engagement therewith, the plate cylinder having an upstanding pattern thereon characterized by substantial unraised areas, applying adhesive to the first web only in the areas corresponding to the upstanding pattern and on the surface opposite the surface in contact with the plate cylinder, and applying a second web to the first web to unite the webs only at the corresponding areas. The first web may be of a fibrous material and the second web may be of paper or polyethylene. One or both of the webs may be embossed and an embossed web may be united to both surfaces of a plain web. The multi-ply web may be used as towelling.
