1,269,074. Production of photographic silver halide colour material. EASTMAN KODAK CO. April 1, 1969 [April 1, 1968], No. 16983/69. Heading G2C. A continuous method of making a light-sensitive photographic material comprises first introducing a light-sensitive silver halide emulsion and at least one dye-forming coupler into a mixing zone and thereafter coating the admixed emulsion and coupler on a support, characterized in that a development-inhibitor-releasing (DIR) coupler is admixed into the emulsion and the coupler so that the ratio of the DIR coupler to the dye-forming coupler or couplers on addition to the mixing zone is constant. The DIR coupler may be admixed with the dye-forming couplers before admixture with the silver halide emulsion. The couplers may be non-diffusible, water-insoluble compounds and may be dissolved in a water-insoluble liquid, dispersed in a hydrophilic colloid and admixed with the light-sensitive silver halide emulsion as such a dispersion. The couplers may all be dissolved in a single solvent dispersion. The DIR coupler preferably has a monothio group in its coupling position which upon reaction with oxidized primary, aromatic amine colour developer, forms a diffusible mercaptan development inhibiting compound. Many examples of couplers are given. The materials prepared as above exhibit uniform contrast throughout due to the presence of the DIR coupler.
