Abstract

1,269,059. Preparing land for root crops. J. O. DAY. 14 Oct., 1969 [17 Oct., 1968], No. 49244/68. Heading A1B. Soil is lifted by a share 21 onto a conveyor 22 and is deposited on a moving elevator conveyor 23 which carries it via conveyor 24 to a sifting grid 26. The more bulky material is carried by conveyor 29 to a crushing apparatus 13 from which the crushed material is returned directly to the ground, thus facilitating the harvesting of root crops. The conveyors generally are of the open slatted type allowing sifting of finer material before it reaches the crushing apparatus. The wheeled trailer 12 is articulated to a tractor 11 and bears the crushing apparatus which is driven by a hydraulic motor 17 supplied from a self-contained power-pack 18 mounted on the tractor. The various conveyors may be driven from the power-pack 18 or from the tractor power-unit.
