An ignition distributer having a primarycircuit make-and-break system comprising a wiper contact and rotary conductive segments, and a secondary-circuit spark distribution system comprising a rotary wiper and stationary segments as in Specification 1,198,416 is modified by mutually inverting the two systems, the make-and-break segments 42 being at the top of the rotor 31 while the rotary wiper 47 and stationary segments 44 are axially near the bottom of the rotor. Segments 42 are interconnected by a ring R engaged by a leaf-spring brush 35 having a lead 37 to a primary-circuit terminal 36 carried on the cover 16 of a twopart housing 29, 25, for the rotor 31. A top member 23 fitted on housing portion 25 by clips 24 is oscillatable thereon by a suction device (14, Fig. 1, not shown) and carries the wiper contact 58 which is earthed via plate 59, rod 60, spring 62 and screw 63 to the conductive base 10. Wiper 58 and brush 35 engage the rotor via slots 581 and 35<SP>1</SP> in housing portion 25. A counter-weight 51 is carried by rotor 31 diametrically opposite the wiper 47 and engages the bore 52 to act as a spacer. In order that leads to sparking plugs may extend symmetrically around the distributer whatever the actual firing order, an annular printed-circuit board (65, Fig. 6, not shown) may be clamped between cover 16 and housing portion 25 carrying conductors and spikes to suitably interconnect the segments 44 and leads 45.
