Abstract

1,267,674. Folding bicycle. V. SUTTON-VANE. 12 May, 1970 [12 Feb., 1969], No. 7647/69. Heading B7E. In a bicycle, a frame member F has an inverted channel section main part 1 which slopes downwardly from front to rear and within which the front end of a rear wheel fork 8 is pivoted between the ends of the main frame member. The rear wheel fork together with the rear wheel and rear wheel drive transmission is swingable in a vertical plane towards the front wheel. The rear wheel fork 8 is separated from the channel section main part 1 by a rubber block 13. A bracket 4 for a saddle tube 32 is mounted on a plate 32 attached by a hinge to the main part 1 and is held in an operative position by a locking clip 28, an extension 29 of which restrains the rear wheel fork from downward motion relative to main part 1. Transmission is by a toothed belt 16 between pulleys 17 and 18 provided with flanges for retaining the belt. The frame member F has an upwardly inclined and tapered part 2 integral with a steering head tube 3 and contains a toolbox 33. A resilient mounting is provided for the front wheel fork by a sleeve 22. A handle 5 is for carrying the bicycle.
