Abstract
1,266,966. Sintered carbide alloy. FANSTEEL Inc. May 14, 1969 [May 15, 1968], No.24559/69. Headings C7A and C7D. A sintered alloy, having a high hardness/ strength ratio and a transverse rupture strength of at least 450, 000 p.s.i., consists of:- Cr C 0À1-2À5% and Co 9-20%, the balance being WC, with any free carbon impurity being less than 0À1%, wherein the CrC has a grain size below 0À2 microns, the average grain size of particles in the alloy is less than 1 micron and the alloy is free from pores. The alloy is made by mixing pure W powder with fine grain size, Cr 2 O 3 with a particle size of 0À1-0À5 microns and relatively pure carbon, heating the mixture in a non-oxidizing atmosphere to 1450-1600 C., blending the product with Co powder in a ball mill, pressing the blend and sintering the compact at 1300-1500 C. USE:- Tools.
