Abstract

1,266,145. Piezoelectric elements. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY. 26 March, 1969 [3 April, 1968], No. 16048/68. Heading H1E. An artificial piezoelectric material is made by heavily loading a synthetic resin with a ferroelectric material, curing the resin and then polarizing the composite material as it cools from a temperature above the Curie point of the ferroelectric material. The ferroelectric material may be a powder of barium titanate having a wide variation of grain size, and the synthetic resin preferably consists of a thermosetting material having a low viscosity. An element made according to the invention may be provided with electrodes and applied to the conductive face of a backing slug made from a thermosetting resin loaded with silver-coated glass spheres and tungsten powder as described in Specification 1,266,144.
