Abstract
1,265,786. Oxide composition. LUMMUS CO. 26 Feb., 1970 [27 Feb., 1969], No. 9355/ 70. Heading B1E. [Also in Division C2] A catalyst composition comprises at least one metal oxide placed substantially entirely within the pores of, and supported on, a continuous porous support having a surface area greater than SOm<SP>2</SP>/gm and a porosity greater than 0.4cc/gm, the weight ratio of metal oxide to support being from 1:3 to 3:1 (i.e. 25-75% wt metal oxide). The oxide is suitably a metal of atomic number 21-33, 39-51, 57-83, 90 or 92, those specified being Th, Mo, U, Bi, V, Sn, Ti, Cr, W, Co, Fe, Mn, Cn, Sb and As. Specified supports are gamma, eta, delta; kappa and chi-alumina, silica-alumina, or zeolites. The compositions are prepared by mixing a metal oxide or salt, having a fusion temperature of not more than 1500C with the specified support, heating above the fusion temperature wherein the oxide or salt is drawn into the pores and if necessary converting to the oxide form. The catalyst may be regenerated by contacting with molecular oxygen.
