1,265,053. Halophenylfluoroalkane derivatives. MERCK & CO. Inc. 10 March, 1969 [13 March, 1968; 17 Feb., 1969], No. 30972/71. Divided out of 1,265,051. Heading C2C. Novel compounds of the Formula (I) in which Hal is bromine or iodine, n is 2 or 3, A is a carbocyolic or heterocyclic ring of 5 or 6 atoms and each of X and X<SP>1</SP> is a hydrogen or halogen atom or a C 1-4 perfluoroalkyl (e.g. CF 3 ), C 1-6 alkyl, C 1-4 alkoxyl, C 1-4 alkylthio, C 1-4 alkylsulphonyl or C 2-8 dialkylsulphamoyl, and more than one substituent may be present on each ring, may be obtained by treating a compound of the Formula (II) with sulphur tetrafluoride, preferably using Lewis acid catalysts, such as HF or BF 3 .
